OKRA
Enormous plants have hibiscus-like flowers that turn into fruit pods called okra. Very popular in the American South and India.
VARIETIES
Jambalaya
Jing Orange
STORAGE
Store in a plastic bag in the fridge, they'll last 1 - 2 weeks . They can also be frozen, and freeze best if blanched beforehand.
COOKING TIPS
Slice them up and check out the beautiful pattern they make. The seeds in okra are edible, so don’t worry about them! The pods become a bit slimy when sautéed, but it doesn’t last and doesn’t happen at all if you roast them or braise them with acidic fruits like tomatoes. It’s an adventure the first time you make okra!
